About Michael's Support

Good people make the difference

Michael’s Support brings together 11 years of disability sector experience with a genuine interest in helping people do more, learn more and enjoy more of everyday life.

Our story

11 years of experience

Michael’s Support grew from more than a decade of working alongside people with disability and seeing just how much the right support can add to someone’s life.

Over those 11 years, Michael has helped people learn to shop, cook, manage money, use public transport, look after their homes, get involved in the community and become more confident doing things for themselves.

He’s also learnt that support doesn’t have to revolve around a checklist. Sometimes a great week includes working towards an important goal. Sometimes it includes getting to the footy, having a laugh or finding something completely new to try.

Michael’s Support was created to bring all of that together, with experienced, practical support and people you can feel comfortable spending time with.

Why we exist

Building everyday confidence

Being able to do something for yourself can change more than that one task.

Learning to catch the bus might open up new places to go. Getting confident with money can make shopping easier. Learning to prepare a meal means having more choice at home. Feeling comfortable in the community can make it easier to say yes to new experiences.

That’s the kind of progress Michael’s Support wants to be part of.

We work alongside participants to build skills, confidence and independence in ways that make sense in real life, while still being there with practical help whenever it’s needed.

Our values

The foundation of everything we do

Michael’s Support is growing, but there are some things we don’t want to change along the way. These are the qualities we expect from the people who become part of our team and the way we want participants and families to experience working with us.

Ethics

We believe in doing the right thing, being honest in the way we work and taking our responsibilities seriously.

Compassion

Everyone has different needs, experiences and challenges. We take the time to understand the person and respond with care and patience.

Inclusion

We want participants to have more opportunities to be part of everyday life, get involved in their community and enjoy the kinds of experiences that matter to them.

Empathy

Good support starts with understanding. We listen, pay attention and make sure people feel heard and respected.

Humour

A good laugh can make a big difference. We like to keep things relaxed, natural and enjoyable wherever we can.
